Extrait de la Science Aérienne Janvier-Février 1938.  An extraordinary copy of this publication by the French aircraft designer and builder, one of the early aviation pioneers especially known for his development of reconnaissance aircraft used by the French in World War I and through the 1920s,  inscribed to fellow pioneering aviation engineer Igor Sikorsky, who developed the first four-engine airplane and the first modern helicopter to be put into widespread use.  A separately issued offprint extract of this article by Breguet from a 1938 issue of the aeronautical journal Science Aérienne, inscribed on the front cover in ink "A Monsieur Sikorsky / hommage trés sincere - / Louis Breguet" and additionally inscribed by Igor Sikorsky to the inside cover "This paper was discussed with Mr. L. Brequet on the way from Paris to Villacoublay on Nov. 16, 1938." and signed "I.S." With numerous annotations throughout in pencil, including small drawings, underlinings, mathematical notations etc. likely the hand of Sikorsky. 4to. 44 pp. Pale green cardstock wrappers. 7.25 x 10.5 inches (18.4 x 26.7 cm.).  Mild wear and spotting to exterior cover, toning to pages; overall in fine condition.  An extraordinary association copy. Printed by Stafford and Co Ltd, Netherfield, Nottingham and London. 40 x 27 inches [102 x 69 cm]. Good condition, folds, creasing, small tears on edges, browning.

Printed dinner invitation card from the Scottish-born inventor to Robert Simpson Woodward (1849–1924), President of the Carnegie Institute, with the purpose of the dinner, "To meet the Board of Managers of the National Geographic Society," neatly penned in an unknown hand above the body of the invitation, which reads "Mr. Alexander Graham Bell / requests the pleasure of / President Woodward's / company at dinner / Thursday February 20 /  at seven thirty o'clock. / 1331 Connecticut Avenue."  No year given, presumed ca. 1897 - 1903. Volume one contains thirty-one plates, seven double-paged, with the explanatory text (4 pp.) at the beginning; second volume is "Machines de Théatre. " Première; 2ieme section. 8 pages of descriptive text at the beginning & 49 plates from the volume of plates. The 49 plates and descriptive text for the entry of Machines De Théâtres from volume X of plates. The first set of plates contains twenty-seven numbered plates, with 14 double sheets (plates 1-6, 11-16, 18 & 26) alongside 4 triple sheets (7, 8, 9 & 10). The second set of plates contains twenty-two numbered plates, and all of these are double sheets.  All describing "Machines de Theatre"; plates by Radel, under the direction of Giraud, theater machinist at the Opera in Paris.  Both volumes finely bound in recent quarter calfskin with marbled paper boards. 15.5 x 10 inches (39.5 x 25.5 cm). Folio (14 x 19 inch; 35 x 49 cm), spiral bound, plain boards; covers detached, generally sound internally. Together with an elaborate painted calligraphic presentation broadside (14 x 21 inch; 36 x 54 cm) of the Symphony to Albert Einstein by Sol Nodel (1951), "Symphony No. 2 'David' dedicated to Albert Einstein For his inspiration to the Jewish people and to all humanity by the composer Menahem Avidom and presented by the American Fund for Israel Institutions on the occasion of the American tour of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, January, February, March 1951," additionally inscribed by the composer in black ink upper left, "To the greatest man in our generation / Prof. A. Einstein / humbly / From the Composer / M. Avidom / Princeton 10/1/51." Together with an original 8 x 8 inch original photograph of the presentation to Einstein and a photocopy of a 1986 letter from Louise F. Sayen later presenting the score and broadside to a Mr. Benamy, noting that "Miss Margot Einstein made this gift to you in gratitude for your thoughtful help in arranging for the distribution of her father's library.  It gave her great comfort that you were the designated representative for the Friends of Hebrew University in Jerusalem." An unusual signed item from the American biologist who shared the 1962 Nobel Prize in Medicine for discovering the function and structure of DNA, providing the prime impetus for further research in the emerging fields of molecular genetics and biochemistry. A paperback copy of "Genesis" (in a translation by Sidney Brichto), signed in blue ballpoint ink on the title page, "J.D. Watson," and initialled, "JD," on the front cover. Our consignor received this autograph in person and recalls that Watson noted when signing that "this will be worth a fortune someday!"
